Boca Raton is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida and was incorporated in May of 1925. Boca Raton is the largest city between West Palm Beach and Pompano Beach. However, on November 2, 2004, the voters of the Via Verde Association and the residents of the Waterside community approved annexation into the Boca Raton city limits, increasing the city land area to a total of 29.6 square miles.
Boca Raton is well known around the country for its well to do lifestyle and flashy shopping and dining. You will find miles of beautiful beaches, fishing, scuba diving, golf and some of the best tennis in the country. Henry Flagler, a railroad magnate founded Boca Raton when he forced his railway further south. In eariler years Boca Raton residents grew fruit and pineapples. Soon Boca Raton was developed as a vacation spot for wealthy northerners.
Boca Raton is home to arts and cultural institutions such as the Boca Raton Museum of Art,the Caldwell Theatre, the Children's Museum, the Little Palm Family Theatre and the International Cartoon Museum in Mizner Park. Fine arts are also represented by the Boca Pops, the Boca Ballet Theatre Company, the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and the Harid Conservatory.
